| InVigor Health hybrid specialty canola line launched
July 12, 2007
Calgary, Alberta (July 12, 2007) InVigor ® Health is set to take specialty canola oil genetics to a new platform. For the first time, canola growers in western Canada will have the opportunity to grow a specialty oil canola from the high-performing, market-leading LibertyLink ® InVigor hybrids.
InVigor Health is a new line of hybrids produced by Bayer CropScience specifically for the specialty canola oil market. InVigor Health produces oil content and quality similar to other specialty oil canola hybrids. “InVigor Health hybrids deliver strong vigor, even maturity and consistently high yields that are a result of the proprietary breeding process used to develop all InVigor hybrids,” says Garth Hodges, Global Business Manager for Canola with Bayer CropScience. “The premium performance of InVigor coupled with higher value features offered for specialty canola oil contracts is great news for canola growers.”
The InVigor Health line promises to be an excellent choice for Canadian growers who choose to contract with Cargill. The first InVigor Health hybrid yielded 120 percent of the checks in the 2006 WCC/RRC registration trials. This new hybrid, as with all InVigor hybrids, offers the LibertyLink herbicide tolerance system.
“Oil from this new hybrid has been rigorously tested in frying applications to ensure that it meets the taste and functional needs of food companies,” said Alan Willits, president of Cargill Specialty Canola Oils. “And Cargill is excited to be able to provide Canadian canola growers with access to a specialty canola hybrid that contains LibertyLink technology and the strong agronomic characteristics they have come to expect from InVigor hybrids.”
Details on obtaining a specialty canola oil contract and purchasing InVigor Health hybrids will be available from Cargill in the fall of 2007.
