Cargill Helping to Rebuild a Vital Part of Viking Community

September 22, 2006

VIKING, Alta–As a proud member of Viking, Cargill AgHorizons is helping to rebuild a vital part of the community.

Through a two-year commitment, Cargill AgHorizons has pledged to the “Carena” Hockey Arena Project, $1.00 for every metric tonne of Canadian Wheat Board Grain sold into its Viking terminal.  This is a special Cargill contribution separate from any payment to farmers for their grain.

“Though our Cargill Cares giving program we continue to intimately support those areas of need in the local communities where we are so fortunate to work and live,” said Kirby Gray, Manager Cargill AgHorizons in Viking.  “We recognize the Carena Arena as more than just a sports complex, it is truly one of the fundamental pillars necessary to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle for our children.”

The amount raised in the first year of the program totaled $40,249 - comprised of a $10,000 minimum corporate donation with the remaining $30,249 raised through the per tonne commitment.  For the coming harvest, Cargill AgHorizons anticipates another successful contribution - including an additional $10,000 in corporate support.

“The generous contribution made possible by the creativity of Cargill will help us in the rebuilding of a new energy efficient multi-purpose facility for our community,” said Garry Wolosinka, Mayor of Viking.  “I want to send out a friendly challenge to all farmers in and around our community to support this special cause by teaming up with Cargill to make next year’s contribution even more successful.”
