Mini-Van Donation! Initiative
October 18, 2006
MEDIA INVITATION
WHAT: Mini-Van Donation!
WHEN: Thursday, October 12, 2006 4:00 pm
WHERE: Cargill Foods Limited, 71 Rexdale Blvd., Etobicoke ON
Etobicoke Services for Seniors (ESS), a United Way member agency, is excited to announce that we have been selected to receive a donation of a Mini-Van from Cargill Foods. The mini-van, a 2004 Ford Freestar valued at $16,000, is critical to the expansion of community transportation services for seniors in Etobicoke. On Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 4:00 p.m., Chris Riecker, Human Resources Manager of Cargill will be presenting the vehicle keys to ESS.
This donation comes to ESS during the United Way Campaign and would not be possible without the support of the United Way. Cargill Foods first learned about ESS through the United Way of Toronto, specifically via their Gifts-In-Kind Program. Gordon Shan, Resource Development Manager from the United Way, will also be present during the “passing of the keys” from Cargill to ESS.
The generosity of Cargill, through this donation, will enable ESS to increase the availability of transportation services for medical appointments, shopping trips and social activities for seniors in Etobicoke. Dolores Ellerker, Executive Director of ESS, states “There is a significant and growing need for transportation in our community and we are very grateful to The United Way of Toronto and Cargill for supporting our services”.
"Cargill and its employees hold a deep commitment towards enrichment of those communities where we are so fortunate to live and work," says Peter Tureski, Vice President and General Manager. "We wanted to support the need for reliable and ample transportation services for our senior citizens."
In 2006, United Way of Greater Toronto aims to raise $100 million for the community. For 50 years, United Way of Greater Toronto has been working to create lasting change in the lives of Torontonians. Through research, partnerships with business, labour, government and volunteers, and by funding a network of 200 health and social service agencies, United Way identifies needs and takes action to support people and develop strong communities.
Etobicoke Services for Seniors (ESS) is a not-for-profit agency committed to supporting seniors in their desire to remain in their own homes and community.
