Cargill Fosters Local "Wellness" Initiative

October 17, 2006

MORRIS, Mb. – As a proud member of Morris, Cargill is helping to bring health and wellness to the local community.

One year ago, the community of Morris opened a new hockey arena. The planning and construction process involved a significant local effort, including fundraising, corporate and individual contributions, grants and municipal and town involvement. The expectation was that Phase 2 of the initiative would produce a “Wellness Centre” to be located on the second floor of the arena complex.

Today, Cargill has provided a one-time $32,000 contribution towards the vision of a Wellness Centre that will include a gym, exercise area and much needed space for physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

“Through our Cargill Cares giving program we continue to intimately support those areas of need in the local communities where we are so fortunate to work and live,” said Rob Rannie, Facility Operations Manager, Cargill AgHorizons. “We recognized the “Arena” project as more than just a sports complex. The Wellness Centre is a necessary ingredient to supporting an active and healthy lifestyle for our children, families and seniors.”

“I express my gratitude for the generous gift your corporation is making to the Morris Complex Wellness Centre. I know this gift will be an encouragement to the volunteer committee who are working towards its opening. It can always be seen as evidence of local support for a project, when a gift is realized from a corporation who’s headquarters are in another country, so I want also to say a special thanks to all those in the Cargill structure who worked toward the granting of these substantial moneys.” said Mayor Barrie Stevenson.
