Children's Museum and Sun Valley Foods shed light on farms and food
July 7, 2005
London, ON. - Elementary school children exploring the Children’s Museum will learn about the food they eat and where it comes from through an education program supported by Sun Valley Foods.
T he company's Sun Valley Cares Committee, which contributes to a variety of charitable organizations in the London community, will present a donation of $5,000 to the London Regional Children’s Museum Friday, July 8 th at 11 a.m. at the museum, 21 Wharncliffe Road South, London.
The donation will support Farm to Fork, an education program designed for students from junior kindergarten to grade three. Through hands-on exhibits, demonstrations, games and songs, children will learn about types of farming, varieties of food that are grown and raised on farms, and how food is processed.
"We are very thankful for this wonderful gift from Sun Valley Foods. It will enable us to provide an engaging hands-on learning opportunity that will help children better understand the food they eat,” says Children’s Museum executive director, Tammy Adkin.
"We employ over 800 people at our processing plant in London. Many of them have young children and grandchildren. When you add that to the fact that we are a food processing company, partnering with the Children's Museum on the Farm to Fork Education Program was an easy decision," says Angela Dowd, Manager of Public Affairs for Sun Valley Foods. "It's a great fit for us and helps us add value to the communities where we live and do business."
Sun Valley Foods, a division of Cargill Limited, supplies processed chicken and beef to the Canadian food service industry and employs approximately 800 people in London. Headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Cargill Limited employs 5,600 people across the country and has business interests in meat, egg and oilseed processing, animal feed, salt, fertilizer manufacturing, chocolate, natural gas, as well as grain handling and merchandising.
The London Regional Children’s Museum is a not for profit, hands-on museum that encourages families to play together and learn together.
