| Local Teacher Selected by Cargill to Attend Environmental Training Program
April 27, 2005
PRINCETON, Ont. — Huron Park Secondary School teacher Roger Boyd was one of six teachers in North America selected by Cargill to attend a weeklong environmental training program at the Keystone Science Center in Colorado. Following the Center’s Key Issues Institute, Boyd will partner with employees from Cargill AgHorizons to develop hands-on environmental-education experiences for his students.
“The knowledge and experience Mr. Boyd will bring back from this institute will provide a tremendous learning opportunity for our students,” said Martin Wylie, principal of the school. “We appreciate Cargill’s support of youth education.”
Key Issues is a national teacher-training institute that provides educators with the process and skills to investigate current environmental issues with their students. The $3,000 Cargill scholarship will provide for Boyd’s transportation, lodging, meals, materials and instruction at the summer session. Cargill has supported the program since 1993, sending more than 60 teachers through the institute. For the first time, Cargill is sponsoring teachers from Canada and Mexico, in addition to teachers from the United States.
“Keystone’s program helps us teach the next generation the importance of protecting our natural resources,” said Garth Wilson, a Cargill AgHorizons’ agronomist. “Cargill is pleased to support this development opportunity for Roger, and we look forward to working with him and his students to enrich our community.”
