Cargill Expands Grain Storage Capacity

April 26, 2005

Cargill AgHorizons will be significantly increasing capacity at its local grain handling facility. The multi-million dollar expansion will double the existing storage by adding another 20,900 tonnes of capacity for grain and oilseed producers. Construction has already started on the project, and it should be completed before the end of the year.

"This initiative is geared specifically to our customers as we look to create further and distinctive value for their business," said Bryce Eger, Farm Service Group manager for Cargill AgHorizons in Clavet. "Whether it be through Identity Preservation (IP) or some combination of operational efficiencies, we are moving forward with our growth strategy to be able to better partner with growers in meeting the ever-changing demands of the international marketplace."

The Clavet facility services customers throughout Saskatchewan. Grain and oilseed are trucked in from as far as 300 kilometers away to the location. The current facility, in its fourth year of operation, consists of a full grain cleaning line, rail service, a 112-car spot, and nearly 21,000 tonnes of existing storage.

"We want to send a strong signal to the farming community in Saskatchewan that we are committed to their success and are here to stay for the long-term," Eger added.

The expansion will introduce 17 new bins to the location, increasing total storage capacity of the facility to just under 42,000 tonnes. The location also houses a full service crop inputs centre offering a range of agricultural products and services, such as pesticides for crop protection, fertilizer and seed, as well as a complete selection of agronomic service.

The storage facility is being designed and built by FWS Construction Ltd., Cargill's strategic alliance partner known for their design and construction of inland grain terminals across western Canada and the northern United States. Local suppliers will be used in all stages of construction.
