MOOSE JAW, SK – Cargill AgHorizons will be significantly
increasing capacity at its local grain handling facility.
The $3.4 million expansion will increase the existing storage
by 14,600 tonnes. Construction has already started on the
project, and it should be completed this fall.
“This initiative is geared specifically to our valued
customers. While our facility has been and will remain a durum
handling operation, this expansion will allow us to significantly
expand our services to spring wheat producers in the area,
” said Dale Johnston, facility manager for Cargill AgHorizons
in Moose Jaw.
The MooseJaw facility services customers throughout the Qu’Appelle
Valley district of Saskatchewan. Grain is trucked in from
as far as 100 kilometres away to the location, which is located
5 kms West of Moose Jaw, SK, on Highway #1.
The current facility, in its 7th year of operation, consists
of a full grain cleaning line, rail service, a 50-car spot,
a grain dryer and 17,500 tonnes of existing storage. The expansion
will introduce 14 new bins to the location, increasing total
storage capacity of the facility to 32,100 tonnes. The location
also houses a full service crop inputs centre offering a range
of agricultural products and services, such as pesticides
for crop protection, fertilizer and seed, as well as a complete
selection of agronomic services.
“AgHorizons’ significant investment in our facility
should send a strong message to the farming community that
we are committed to their success and here to stay for the
long-term. This expansion will allow us to further enhance
the level and delivery of services we are able to provide
to our valued customers through increased storage capacity
and immediate operational efficiencies,” said Garry
Sterna, Qu’Appelle Valley’s Farm Service Group
manager for Cargill AgHorizons.
The storage facility is being designed and built by FWS Construction
Ltd., Cargill’s strategic alliance partner known for
their design and construction of inland grain terminals across
western Canada and the northern United States. Local suppliers
will be used in all stages of construction.
