| Cargill Significantly Increases Giving to
Benefit United Way Campaign
January 5, 2004
Cargill Limited has completed another successful campaign
in support of a vital community organization. Together with
employees, Cargill raised just over $220,000 for the 2003
United Way Campaign—a 129 percent increase over last
year—the largest single donation in the company’s
past 20 years of giving.
For the first time, Cargill Limited teamed up with parent
company, Cargill, Incorporated, to provide a four-dollar corporate
match donation for every dollar contributed by employees.
“We are encouraged by the dedication and ongoing support
by our employees for the United Way. The contribution we are
able to provide this year is a direct result of volunteerism,
partnerships, and significant generosity on the part of our
employees,” said Robert Meijer, director of public affairs,
Cargill Limited.
To help build awareness of and excitement for the United
Way campaign, Cargill held a number of successful events including
a pancake breakfast, a silent auction, and a scavenger hunt.
“At Cargill, our employees appreciate the fact that
community involvement is an everyday part of doing business,”
Meijer noted. “Our long-standing involvement with United
Way is just one way we look to enrich local communities, and
make a positive and lasting impact where we live and work.”
Through volunteerism, partnerships and grant making, Cargill
contributes more than $18 million each year worldwide to civic
and charitable organizations to help fulfill the company’s
vision to be the global leader in nourishing people.
Cargill Limited is one of Canada’s largest agricultural
merchandisers and processors. The company, which is headquartered
in Winnipeg, Manitoba, has interests in meat, egg and oilseed
processing, animal feed, salt and fertilizer manufacturing,
chocolate, natural gas, as well as grain handling and merchandising.
