expands grain storage capacity in Rycroft, AB
May 7, 2003
Rycroft, AB – Cargill AgHorizons today announced it
would be increasing capacity at its local grain handling facility.
The $2.6 million expansion will increase storage space of
the grain handling facility by 10,270 tonnes.
Construction is set to begin within the next few weeks and
will be completed this fall.
“The additional storage will enable us to better service
our customers not only through greater storage capabilities
but also by better efficiencies within the plant,” said
Sheldon Spearman, Farm Service Group manager for Cargill AgHorizons.
“This is an initiative done with our customers in mind,”
said Doug Bumstead, plant manager for Cargill AgHorizons in
Rycroft.
The Rycroft facility services customers throughout the Peace
River district of Alberta and northeastern British Columbia.
Grain is trucked in from as far as 400 kilometres away to
the location, which is located two miles east of Rycroft,
Alberta on Highway 49.
The current facility, in its third year of operation, consists
of a full grain cleaning line, rail service, a 75-car spot,
a grain dryer and 17,500 tonnes of current storage. The expansion
will bring total capacity of the facility to 27,770 tonnes.
The current location also houses a full service crop inputs
centre offering a full range of agricultural products and
services, such as pesticides for crop protection, fertilizer
and seed, as well as customized crop advice from a certified
agronomist.
The facility is being designed and built by FWS Construction
Ltd., Cargill’s strategic alliance partner and known
for their design and construction of inland grain terminals
across western Canada and the northern United States. Local
suppliers will be used in all stages of construction.
