| Terminal 22 is the
First Inland Grain Terminal to Receive ISO Status
Dec. 11, 2002
Balcarres, SK - Terminal 22, an inland grain terminal, recently
received certification under the ISO 9000 Quality Management
System, the most current ISO certification available. Terminal
22 becomes the first inland facility in western Canada to
be certified under this internationally recognized set of
standards.
"We have always operated our grain terminal under strict
standards in efforts to maintain a high degree of customer
service. This ISO certification gives us a distinct advantage
and allows our efforts to be recognized on a global level,"
said Garth Gish, Director of Operations.
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an
international certification that recognizes superior quality
management systems in a variety of industries. To qualify,
organizations must adhere to rigorous standards that ensure
management responsibility, customer focus, effective internal
and external communications and a dedication to quality.
Along with the new ISO status, Terminal 22 has also received
recognition for its HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control
Points) program. HACCP was developed for the food industry
and is a standardized program that analyses potential safety
hazards and establishes preventative measures. Both ISO and
HACCP are internationally recognized.
Once qualified under ISO, businesses must continually prove
their worth. Annual audits are carried out in order to retain
ISO status. If a company lets performance slide, status is
taken away. It's a method used to ensure best practices never
fall by the wayside.
"With both highly-regarded certifications, our customers
can be assured grain that comes through our facility is being
handled by a team of professionals operating under the highest
quality standards," said Gish.
Terminal 22 (1998) Inc. is a 50/50 joint venture grain company
comprised of local area farmers and Cargill Limited, which
operates grain handling and crop inputs facilities across
Canada. Situated at Balcarres, Saskatchewan T22 services several
area communities in one of the highest producing grain growing
regions of the province.
