Cargill today reported net earnings of $571 million in the fiscal 2014 first quarter, down 41 percent from last year’s record quarter of $975 million. First-quarter revenues of $33.8 billion matched the year-ago period.

Cargill today announced that its board of directors has elected David W. MacLennan, currently Cargill’s president and chief operating officer, as the corporation’s next chief executive officer effective Dec. 1, 2013, succeeding Gregory R. Page, 62, who will serve as executive chairman. MacLennan, 54, will retain the title of president and continue as a director of the company. The transition is the result of the company’s ongoing succession planning with the board.

Cargill reports fourth-quarter and fiscal 2013 earnings

Cargill today reported net earnings of $483 million in the fiscal 2013 fourth quarter ended May 31, up substantially from $73 million in the same period a year ago. Fourth-quarter revenues were $35.4 billion, a 4 percent increase from $34 billion in the year-ago period.

Today the company announced a donation of $250,000 toward relief efforts, with additional funding available through corporate matching and employee contributions to relief organizations.
Cargill to expand Rosetown rail service

Cargill today announced plans to increase its rail capacity at its Rosetown, Saskatchewan grain elevator and crop inputs facility to 100 rail cars to better service North Saskatchewan farm customers. Prior to the expansion the facility was capable of loading 50 car units.

Cargill today announced that it has signed a letter of intent to enter a joint venture agreement with Parrish andHeimbecker, Limited (P&H) that would have both companies jointly owning and operating Cargill’s existing Thunder-Bay, Ontario, grain terminal. The two companies will have an equal ownership in the joint venture.

Cargill today reported net earnings of $445 million in the fiscal 2013 third quarter ended Feb. 28, down 42 percent from $766 million in the same period a year ago. Nine-month earnings totaled $1.83 billion, up 66 percent from $1.1 billion in the prior year. Third-quarter revenues edged up 1 percent to $32.2 billion, which brought nine-month revenues to $101.2 billion.

Cargill today reported net earnings of $409 million in the fiscal 2013 second quarter ended Nov. 30, compared with $100 million in the same period a year ago. In the first six months, earnings totaled $1.38 billion compared with $336 million in the prior year. Second-quarter revenues rose 6 percent to $35.2 billion, which brought first-half revenues to $69 billion.
