Cargill Citizenship Fund
Cargill is committed to being a global
leader in corporate citizenship by
supporting the people and possibilities
that reside in communities where we
do business. We define citizenship as
providing a measurable, positive impact onour communities. The Cargill Citizenship
Fund provides strategic grants to
organizations serving communities where
Cargill has a presence.
Children’s Hospital
Emergency Department
Funding from Cargill made upgrading of
the Emergency Room at the Children’s
Hospital in Winnipeg a reality. The goal
was to provide an atmosphere where
children would feel more safe and
comfortable during what can otherwise be
a frightening experience. From a beautiful
fish tank to specially commissioned
artwork, the revitalized area is a more
positive environment for children
receiving treatment.
Farm Safety 4 Just Kids
Cargill is deeply connected to the people
who live, work and raise families on our
nation’s farms. Since 1992, the company
has been a leading corporate sponsor
for Farm Safety 4 Just Kids (FS4JK), a
non‑profit organization based in Iowa
serving communities throughout the
United States and Canada. FS4JK’s main
objective is to reduce the high number of
farm-related injuries and deaths involving
children each year. It also aims to increase
public awareness and understanding of the
hazards to youth on the farm, and promotethe skills and resources to make farms
safer. Cargill employees are involved with
FS4JK through local chapters in their areas.
United Way
As part of its efforts to enrich local
communities, Cargill and its employees
participate in local United Way campaigns
raising money to support local health and
human service organizations. With the
support of more than 8,000 employees
in 20 communities throughout Canada,
more than $800,000 is raised to support
local needs each year. More than 92% of
the employees at Cargill’s head office in
Winnipeg participate in their campaign
and for every $1 raised by employees, the
company donates $2 to the campaign,
a program that is unmatched among
Manitoba’s Top 50 corporate donors.
Breakfast for Learning
Cargill has partnered with the Breakfast for
Learning program to help support school
breakfast programs in rural Manitoba and
Winnipeg’s core area schools. In Ontario,
Sun Valley Foods, a division of Cargill,
supports school breakfast programs through
Breakfast for Learning in the London
region. Breakfast for Learning ensures that
students start their day well nourished and
ready to learn.
Habitat for Humanity
The mission of Habitat for Humanity is
to mobilize volunteers and community
partners in building affordable housing and
promoting home ownership as a means to
breaking the cycle of poverty. Employees
of Cargill provide hundreds of hours of
volunteer labour to help construct homes
for area families. Approximately 40 homes
have been built by Cargill employees
across Canada since 1997.
London Children’s Museum “Farm to Fork” program
Elementary school children learn about
the food they eat and where it comes from
through an education program called “Farm
to Fork” sponsored by Sun Valley Foods.
Through hands-on exhibits, demonstrations,
games and songs, children learn about
types of farming, varieties of food that are
grown and raised on farms, and how food
is processed.
Ronald McDonald House
At Ronald McDonald Houses across
Canada, out-of-town families have a
home-away-from-home while their
children undergo life-saving treatments
at nearby hospitals. Cargill employees
support the charity through a Voluntary
Payroll Deduction Program which allows them to donate directly to the RMH in their
community. In addition, the company hosts
an annual fundraising golf tournament
called FORE! The Houses, with proceeds
going directly to all Ronald McDonald
Houses across Canada.
